Struggling readers can come in all ages and at all stages of the educational process. I love struggling readers so much. This upcoming Tuesday, January 28, 2020 from 1-2:30, I’ll be joining Texthelp over at the Education Week Virtual Summit about Struggling Readers. This free summit, “Getting Reading Right” is free and text-based. I’ll be in the booth with Texthelp and we’ll be talking “Turning Struggling Readers into Striving Readers.”

education week online summit

This blog post and the session I will be joining at the Reading Summit on Tuesday, January 28 from 1-3 pm ET will be sponsored by Texthelp, creator of the Read Write Toolbar which I included in 10 Ways to Personalize Learning for Students.

A Passion to Help Struggling Readers

As a Mom of three, I’ve been gifted with one of my children having dyslexia. I say gifted because he has become the best reader in my family! Perhaps because of how long it took us to help him learn to read or the way reading became a focus of our household, he has thrived. Or perhaps it is because of the many tips and tools I’ve taught him.

He is now a senior in high school and while I am not crazy about tests, I will say that he made a 30 on the ACT reading section of the test. He is a fantastic reader now and I want to encourage all teachers and parents out there with the tips, tools, and strategies to help struggling readers of all ages.

The 5 Pillars of Reading

We’ve built this session around the 5 Pillars of Reading: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension. We’ll dive into each of these pillars (phonemic awareness and phonics will be combined.)

I hope you’ll join us to help Get Reading Right on Tuesday, January 28 from 1 – 3 pm. The event is free and I hope it will encourage, inform, and give you hope for possibilities for the struggling readers in your classroom and life.

Disclosure of Material Connection: This is a “sponsored podcast episode.” The company who sponsored it compensated me via cash payment, gift, or something else of value to include a reference to their product. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I believe will be good for my readers and are from companies I can recommend. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”
