Avoca, PA (October 5, 2023) – Eric McKitish, AVP Director – Marketing, Communications & Air Service Development, has announced that AVP has teamed up with 139FIRE for five days of Intensive Firefighter training, on October 9-13, 2023 at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport.

For the 20th year, AVP offers this course to our Airport employees and other regional Airports, as well as our area Fire Companies that will be called to assist at the Airport, in case of an aircraft emergency.

Denise Price, AVP Assistant Director – Marketing, Communications & Air Service Development, said, “In addition to being used to continually educate our own ARFF Personnel, this course gives AVP an opportunity to allow our mutual aid fire personnel to work with our ARFF staff on an actual Aircraft simulator.”

“This unit actually burns and the fire personnel work in an active fire environment,”
Price continued. “They also receive very intense classroom instruction.”

Participants this year (as of today) include representatives from:

Airports include: Greater Binghamton (NY); Reading Regional (PA); Sullivan County (NY); Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International (PA); and Williamsport Regional (PA).

Fire Departments include: Hanover Twp., Fire Co. (Station 137); Pittston Twp. Fire Department (Station 166); Plains Twp. Fire Department (Station 167); and Wilkes-Barre Fire Department (Station 187).
